• Advertising Review:

  BBB promotes truth in advertising by contacting advertisers whose claims conflict with the BBB Code of Advertising. These claims may come to our attention from our internal review of advertising, consumer complaints and competitor challenges. BBB asks advertisers to prove their claims, change ads to make offers more clear to consumers, and remove misleading or deceptive statements.

  On June 18, 2024 BBB asked the business to substantiate the following claims appearing in online advertising: 

  1."The #1 Trusted Pest Control Service in Ohio" 

  BASIS FOR ADVERTISING REVIEW:

  28. Objective Superlative Claims: Superlative statements in advertisements about the tangible qualities and performance values of a product or service are objective claims for which the advertiser must possess substantiation as they can be based upon accepted standards or tests. As statements of fact, such claims, like “#1 in new car sales in the city,” can be proved or disproved.

  2."We guarantee you'll be pest-free"

  BASIS FOR ADVERTISING REVIEW: 20. Warranties or Guarantees 20.3 When “satisfaction guarantee” or similar representations are used in advertising, any material limitations or conditions that apply to the guarantee must be clearly and conspicuously disclosed.

  3. "environmentally friendly methods to effectively address a wide range of pest issues"

  BASIS FOR ADVERTISING REVIEW: 36. Environmental Benefit Claims-  36.1.2 Advertisers must qualify general claims with specific environmental benefits.

  36.1.5 Unless clear from the context, any environmental claim must specify clearly and conspicuously whether the claim applies to the product, the product’s packaging, a service or just to a portion of the product, package or service.

   

  BBB’s Code of Advertising requires advertisers to be prepared to substantiate such claims. To date, BBB is awaiting the business’ reply with substantiation.
