- Advertising Review:
BBB sent correspondence to New York Certificate Service on July 20, July 27, and August 3, 2021, requesting that the letters that they are sending to businesses be revised to clearly indicate that they are a document preparation service and not a government agency.
The following language from the letters sent to businesses implies that New York Certificate Service is a NYS government agency and states what the business needs to do next since filing with the Secretary of State, to receive a copy of their Certificate of Status.
"Congratulations on registering your business with the State of New York. Your Articles have been filed with the Secretary of State and are complete. You have one step left in order to obtain your elective New York State Certificate of Status. Below is a form for your newly registered business. Please confirm the accuracy of the information below for your New York State Certificate of Status request.
A New York Certificate of Status is issued by the Secretary of State and may be required for loans, to renew business licenses, or for tax or other business purposes. A certificate of Status certifies that your New York business is authorized to transact business in the state and complies with all state requirements. The Certificate of Status shows the official evidence of an entity’s existence and provides a statement of an entity’s status, current legal name and date of formations. The Certificate of Status bears the official seal of the New York Secretary of State."To date, the business has not responded to our request.
