BBB files indicate that Titan Moving and Storage (Titan) has a pattern of complaints concerning allegations of excessive charges over and above estimates, customer service issues, and delayed pick-ups and/or delivery of household goods.  In some cases the business has responded to these allegations, however since July 2018, the business has failed to respond to complaint matters filed with the BBB.  BBB staff contacted the business regarding its investigation into the business practices and these pattern concerns on October 23, 2018, and again on December 6, 2018.  To date, the BBB has not received a response to any of these communications. Specifically, many complainants claim to have received online quotes/estimates from Titan that would change once the movers arrived.  In some cases, consumers had no choice but to pay the exuberant fees as there was no time to find another mover.  There were also claims that Titan movers used intimidation tactics and/or refused to unload household goods without additional payment at the time of delivery.  It is also reported that guaranteed timeframes were not honored with both the pick-up and delivery of goods being extremely late or delayed without reason or communication provided from the business.

Additional complaints purport difficulties contacting the business either by phone or email, particularly after the quote or estimate was paid. Despite its efforts to resolve a small portion of the complaints filed with the BBB, Titan has failed to address the underlying issues and correct its business practices to eliminate the pattern of complaints received by the BBB.

The BBB offers tips on preparing for a move, finding a trustworthy moving company, and avoiding scams.

In June 2018, BBB began receiving an increase in complaints for Titan Moving and Storage (Titan) alleging unfair and deceptive marketplace practices.  Initially, BBB staff received responses to these complaints from the business.  BBB also received numerous calls and emails from an individual, Tommy W. claiming to be with the business after their rating was changed to NR during the investigation into their complaints. He was supposedly under pressure from his manager to have their “good rating” reinstated and was genuinely concerned with correcting any problems.  The number of complaints received continued to increase over the following months with allegations of excessive charges over and above estimates, customer service issues, and delayed pick-ups and/or delivery of household goods.  Please see the additional alert titled ‘Pattern of Complaints’ for details regarding the complaint matters filed with our organization.

In August of 2018, additional questions surfaced from not only our BBB, but other BBBs along the east coast regarding Titans physical location, licensing and relationship to various other moving companies.  Different addresses had been reported by consumers for locations in New Jersey and Pennsylvania, as well as the Maryland locations.  U.S. Department of Transportation licensing records show that on April 19, 2018 the business was located in Maryland, however when updated on August 15, 2018 they showed a physical location in New Jersey.  Mail was returned from the New Jersey location, but not the Maryland location.  

During the course of the investigation, BBB staff were able to link the owner, Fadwa Ojyli to four different moving companies; Epic Moving, Meyers Moving and Storage, Pioneer Moving Group, and Advantage Moving and Storage.  When BBB staff questioned the business regarding the relationship of the other companies they were told they were “out of business,” that the only entity in operation was Titan Moving and Storage.  

At the time of BBB’s investigation, Titan Moving & Storage Van Lines Corp was listed as the legal name for USDOT Number 2910112.  BBB staff learned that prior to the April 2018 licensing check, the same USDOT number listed Epic Movers as the legal name.  During both the April and August 2018 license reviews, the above listed USDOT number showed an operating status of “AUTHORIZED FOR property.”  A subsequent review listed them as “OUT-OF-SERVICE” as of February 4, 2019, meaning they are not authorized to transport any type of goods at this time.  

Lastly, BBB attempted to solicit responses in writing from Titan relating to its business practices, physical location, and the pattern of complaints on August 15, 2018, October 23, 2018, and again on December 6, 2018.  To date, BBB has not received a response to any communications, including complaint matters received after our inquiries.
