- Additional Info:The BBB of Greater Houston and South Texas would like you to know the Bureau has received recent information indicating the contact information, including the physical address for Texcorp Mortgage Bankers and its affiliates, VALoans.com and Emery Federal Credit Union, have been fraudulently used in an internet-based payday loan e-mail scam believed to be operating outside of the United States. One area code and number is from 210-401-3930 which is the San Antonio area code and another is 979-639-7900 which is in between Austin and Houston Texas. The 210-401-3930 is associated with Don Parker and 979-639-7900 is associated with Steve J. Brown. Another name that has been identified is Scott Thomas. Neither individual are currently or ever have been employees, associates or related in any manner, whatsoever to Texcorp. It is believed that they are using sophisticated phone-jack devices and disposable cell phones.
Consumers targeted by the scam typically are looking for a payday or short term loan and search the Internet for assistance. They voluntarily place their personal information on these independent sites (not recommended) and then receive an email from one of the aliases above from e-mail addresses located at valoans33allservices@gmail.com, valoansservicesallcare@gmail.com or some other variation indicating that the potential victim has been approved for a short term loan that is affiliated with the above named companies. They include a non- authorized logo and wording in the e-mail, but no direct hyperlink to our legitimate site. Consumers who respond by telephone to the offer are then told that in order to receive the loan, they have to pay for either an upfront fee, taxes owed, processing fee, etc., in the form of a MoneyPak or Pre-paid credit card including Vanilla Network cards. We advise against paying any upfront fees.
