(Certifichecks are the gift certificates the Chamber promotes and sells as part of the Buy Local Program.)This is from the message currently posted on the CertifiChecks website at www.certifichecks.com: "Due to an extremely difficult economic environment, CertifiChecks, Inc., has ceased operations, effectively immediately. CertifiChecks will no longer administer gift certificate programs. CertifiChecks gift certificate sales have been halted. Do not deposit CertifiChecks gift certificates in the bank as they will be returned. Merchants: Please remove all door and register decals."The Washington County Chamber of Commerce is therefore issuing these notices:URGENT NOTICE TO MERCHANTS--Please do not accept Certifichecks any longer. If you deposit them in the bank, they will be returned. Please tell any customers that present them to you to contact the Chamber for more information.NOTE TO ALL RESIDENTS--Please do not purchase Certifichecks any longer from any source (not from CertifiChecks website nor from any phone number associated with this program).NOTE TO CERTIFICHECK HOLDERS--The Chamber is researching possible redemption options and will know more in a few days. We recognize our responsibility in this matter as Certifichecks were part of the Buy Local Awareness Program that the Chamber has promoted for the past five years. Please be assured that we are working in good faith to find a resolution as soon as possible.
