To help our clients stay empowered, The National MS Soceity works to help those with MS learn how to live with this disease and maintain their independence. Programs in this category include employment conference calls as well as programs for employers, public awareness campaigns, referals to accessible public transportation options and access to our loan closet that contains durable medical equipment.
Health & Wellness Programs
The National MS Society provides numerous direct to client services promoting health and wellness including: Discovery Weekend (200 participants), 15 monthly support groups serving 105 counties, educational and supportive conference calls, "Keep S'myelin" newsletter for children and families affected by MS, referrals to health-care professionals and MS Clinics, referrals to wellness resources and exercise programs like MS Aquatics, and programs on energy management and nutrition.
Knowledge Programs
Knowledge programs are intented to keep our clients and the general public informed about MS. These programs include information and referrals to area resources, a lending library of books and tapes, our quarterly chapter newsletter, "MS Connection, educational pamphlets and brochures, an interacive education program on the internet called "MS Learn Online", a monthly event and program calendar sent out to keep clients informed as well as our quartlery national Magazine titled "Inside MS.
Advocacy
The National MS Society works to remain cognizant of state and federal issues effecting people with disabilities inclduing changes in health insurance coverage, life and respite care options and accessible public transportation. The National MS Society works to advocate an increase in funding for national research based iniviatives looking for the casue and cure for MS.
