Since 1999 the Attorneys General of 9
states have taken actions against Dennis Lee, associated with three companies purporting to sell a free electricity device and other inventions including a machine he claimed can make a car engine run on pickle juice or cola, a detergent-free, magnetic laundry system; a type of paint that can substitute for home insulation; a drinkable insecticide; and a noiseless jackhammer.
In October 1999, the Attorney General for the State of Tennessee obtained a temporary restraining order against Dennis Lee and other seminar organizers pending a motion to stop Dennis Lee from doing business in Tennessee.
In Oct 1999, the Wyoming Attorney General issued a news release urging the public to be extremely cautious about the 'free electricity' offer, and other investments or products promoted by Dennis Lee stating "we are extremely skeptical of all claims made by Dennis Lee..." "Lee's demonstrations were nothing more than parlor tricks, and his presentation was a mixture of scientific and pseudoscientific terms, references to popular conspiracy theories, and reference to religious beliefs calculated to confuse, deceive, and ultimately, to defraud the public of large sums of money." The Wyoming Attorney General further indicated it was seeking an injuction against Lee and his associates to prevent further activities in Wyoming.
In April 2003, Dennis Lee entered into a Consent Decree with the State of Idaho agreeing to be permanently enjoined from engaging in the following acts or practices in the State of Idaho: selling or advertising for sale dealerships or franchises, discount buying clubs, any goods or services, demonstrating, promoting, installing, advertising, or selling generators or any electricity producting device. In addition, Dennis Lee was to pay the State of Idaho $500.00 for the costs incurred.
Dennis Lee was arrested in Kentucky on counts of failing to register a business opportunity, failing to include the business opportunity registration number in advertisements, and making false claims. In January 2004, the Commonwealth of Kentucky found Dennis Lee guilty in a criminal attempt to fail to register a business opportunity.
Other states have barred Dennis Lee from conducting sales presentations on free electricity devices and other related technologies. Lee faced a contempt order in another state for violating a settlement that prohibited him from selling the advertised free electricity device.

BBB contacted International Tesla Electric Company regarding their newspaper & website advertisement directed to those customers interested in fuel savers - PICC and HAFC (Pre-Ignition Catalytic Converter and Hydro Assist Fuel Cell). The company claims these devices will create a 50% increase in gas mileage.
According to the Nashville Middle Tennessee Advertising Plan "Claims as to energy savings performance, environmental qualities, safety, efficiency, results, etc. which will be obtained or realized from a particular product or service shall be based on recent and competent scientific engineering or other objective data.
BBB requested the company's voluntary cooperation in substantiating the claim by providing BBB with independent laboratory testing on both products and the contact information of 25 customers in Middle Tennessee who have purchased the product and realized the fuel savings. BBB also requested information regarding the company's savings guarantee offering a refund of the cost of the kit to include what steps/procedures are required to obtain the refund.
As of today's date, the company has failed to respond to the BBB. This advertising challenge has been closed as unanswered and unsubstantiated.
