- Government Actions:Government Action: BBB reports on known government actions involving business’ marketplace conduct:ATTORNEY GENERAL REACHES SETTLEMENT WITH WALK'S SERVICE CENTER AND IT'S OWNER OVER PRIVATE TICKETING PRACTICES
The following describes a government action that has been resolved by either a settlement or a decision by a court or administrative agency. If the matter is being appealed, it will be noted below.
Only July 24, 2024 Attorney General Michelle Henry reached a settlement with Walk's Service Center and it's owner Bradley Karch over allegations that they engaged in unfair ticketing practices. This settlement resolves a 2020 suit that alleged Walk's issued private parking tickets that looked similar to government parking tickets, and falsely threatened consumers with prosecution and/ or retention of their vehicle if they were not paid.As part of the court approved settlement, Walk's agreed to provide $15,000 towards a fund to compensate consumers who have filed or will complaints with the AG's office. The complaints must be related to payment of tickets issued by Walk's. It also states that Walk's cannot take payment before releasing the towed vehicles, and that the tickets must clearly indicate that they are privately owned and enforced.
Any consumers who paid a private parking ticket issued by Walk’s, and who has not received full reimbursement yet, should file a complaint with the Bureau of Consumer Protection, call 800-441-2555, or email scams@attorneygeneral.gov by November 19, 2024.
The settlement should not be considered as an admission of guilt or finding of violation of the law, please see press release for more details.
