Important information
- Additional Info:This company came to the attention of the Better Business Bureau serving Eastern Oklahoma in March of 2010 after consumers from a variety of states contacted the BBB seeking additional information. The BBB contacted the company in order to obtain its current business information. BK Premium Products provided BBB with a business start date of 1999 and a mailing address in Tulsa, Oklahoma. BBB was unable to verify the business start date of 1999. The company's owner, James Adam Jenkins indicated that he would provide documentation proving that this company has been operating since 1999. To date, the company has not provided any information verifying the claimed business start date. However, Secretary of State Records show that the company's trade name was registered March 5, 2010. Further review found that the company name "BK Premium Products" was incorporated with the State of Oklahoma on June 19, 2011.
Consumers that have contacted BBB claim they encountered BK Premium Products from a Craigslist employment advertisement that appeared to be placed by the company for the purpose of hiring distributers. Furthermore, consumers were led to believe through extended correspondence with Mr. Jenkins that they would be hired to function as a "fundraising representative" selling dried meat after an initial investment of $2,500. Consumers were led to believe proceeds from the fund-raising efforts would be used to benefit charities. Consumers that have contacted BBB claim that once they had received an initial supply of dried meat, they were never able to receive more of the product.
Between April 18, 2011 and May 9, 2011 BBB received five (5) complaints from individuals that invested monies into B.K Products/James Adam Jenkins. The individuals believed they were investing in a business venture and part of their investment fee purchased the right to operate in a particular territory. All of the individuals filing complaints with BBB sought a refund of their $2,500 investment. In January of 2012, BBB verified with consumers that eventually refunds were made available to them by the company.
BBB further research of the company and its owner, James Adam Jenkins, revealed that he has been arrested in Rogers County, Oklahoma and charged with obtaining cash or merchandise by fraud, and in Tulsa County, Oklahoma charged with three counts of unfair or deceptive trade practice in violation of the Oklahoma Consumer Protection Act. A press release issued by the Oklahoma Attorney General revealed that on December 19, 2011, James Adam Jenkins pleaded guilty to consumer fraud and paid $91,000.00 in restitution. Under the plea agreement entered on December 19, 2011 in the Tulsa County District Court, Jenkins received a 5-year deferred sentence and probation. Jenkins is also prohibited from engaging in the business of guided hunting while on probation. Consumers can find out more information on these cases by searching www.oscn.net.
In January of 2012, it came to the attention of BBB, that Jenkins has been operating another company by the name "Food Share Program" which is a DBA of B.K. Premium Products.
Food Share Program's website claims for every 4 lbs of meat sold the company will donate 1 lb of meat to a charity. On January 19, 2012 BBB staff visited the address listed on Food Share Program's website. BBB staff at that time met with Mr. Jenkins and toured the office space along with the warehouse. Mr. Jenkins explained his business "Food Share Program" and how it operates. BBB expressed concerns about the verification of charities that are benefiting from the company's claims. Mr. Jenkins and his attorney stated they will provide BBB information containing the names of the charities that are receiving donations; BBB did not initially receive this information. BBB was contacted on March 9, 2012 and advised that the company was in the process of getting all of the charities listed on the Food Share website. BBB verified that on March 9, 2012 around twelve different charities were listed on the website. BBB was informed that more charities will be listed and the site will be updated as the proper paperwork is completed.
In January of 2012 BBB contacted business representatives of four businesses that Food Share Program's website had listed as "Partners in the Pledge". BBB was informed by two company representatives that they were told by a Food Share Representative that Food Share was a non-profit organization. Each company representative BBB spoke with claimed they were unaware that Food Share Program had their company name and picture on its website, and at no point where they under the impression their company would be considered a "Partner in the Pledge".
