- Advertising Review:
BBB promotes truth in advertising by contacting advertisers whose claims conflict with the BBB Code of Advertising. These claims may come to our attention from our internal review of advertising, consumer complaints and competitor challenges. BBB asks advertisers to prove their claims, change ads to make offers clearer to consumers, and remove misleading or deceptive statements.
On March 3, 2020, Better Business Bureau of Central and Northwest NC contacted the Major League Construction, Inc. regarding advertisement claims on their social media, https://www.facebook.com/mlcnc/ stating:
- Residential & Commercial Construction
- Build * Remodel * Restore
- From Residential to Commercial including building & design to restoration and remodeling.
A General Contractor’s license from the North Carolina licensing board is required by any person or firm that bids upon, contracts or constructs any building project costing $30,0000 or more.
Basic Principles of the Code requires that advertisers should be prepared to substantiate any objective claims or offers made before publication or broadcast. Upon request, they should present such substantiation promptly to the advertising medium or BBB.
As of August 7, 2020, BBB noted that the company has modified some of the requested advertising claims. However, the business failed to substantiate, modify or discontinue the advertised claims located on their social media page.
