- Government Actions:FTC vs Zephyr Hearing Aid Center
On July 15, 2020, FTC, (Federal Trade Commission), and Missouri Attorney General, Eric Schmitt, issued a cease and desist warning letter to Zephyr Hearing Aid Center AKA Signia Hearing Aids and Allison Opp in regards to a Stimulus Mailer issued in May 2020. FTC determined that the company unlawfully advertised that Missouri consumers are receiving COVID-19 stimulus relief for hearing aids. The letter highlight claims included in the mailer that implied that consumers were eligible for a government stimulus benefit specifically for the use of buying hearing aids, and that the company would be able to provide that benefit. The mailer included a document designed to look like a $1000 check made out to the consumer labeled "Official Authorized Voucher" and with instructions to endorse it on the back.
The company was advised to cease making any representation, directly or indirectly, expressly or by implication, that are false or misleading.
