In July 2020, Better Business Bureau challenged Gaiter Face Masks' website, www.gaiterfacemaks.com, which stated:

“MADE IN USA”
“Made in the U.S.A.”
“Shop 100% American”
“USA Personal Protective Equipment US”
“Shop for Made in the USA neck gaiters.”
“Wholesale”

In regards to Made in USA claims the BBB Code of Advertising states, “‘Made in USA’ and similar terms used to describe the origin or a product must be truthful and substantiated. An advertiser must not express or imply that a product or product line is exclusively ‘Made in USA’ unless all or virtually all of the product is made in the U.S. All significant parts and processing that go into the product must be of U.S. origin. That is, the product should contain no-or negligible-foreign content.”

Further, the Better Business Bureau Code of Advertising states, “The terms ‘wholesale price,’ ‘at cost’ and the like can be used where they are current prices which retailers usually and customarily pay when they buy such merchandise for resale. For example, where the advertiser buys its products from a manufacturer, a claim that it sells at ‘wholesale prices’ can be used if its prices are comparable to those charged by wholesalers in its trade area.”

BBB asked Gaiter Face Masks to provide substantiation to the claims made on its website.  The company initially responded stating the neck gaiters were made in the U.S. but the ear loop masks were not and this fact was disclosed on its website.  BBB could not find this disclosure on their website. Gaiter Face Masks declined to modify or discontinue its claims and has failed to substantiate its wholesale claim.
