BBB reports on known significant government actions involving business' marketplace conduct.
On August 2, 2019, Lawrence Sefa of LAS Loan Assistance Centers was sentenced to one year in Livingston County jail after pleading guilty to one count of Conducting a Criminal Enterprise back in 2017. This comes after Michigan's Department of Attorney General discovered Sefa made false promises to modify mortgages and save homes of clients from being foreclosed on. Due to Sefa's fake mortgage assistance scheme, over 30 clients of LAS were affected between 2011 and 2015. Many of those clients received minimal assistance and lost their home in the process. Sefa's plea agreement consisted of a delayed sentencing after he was required by Livingston County Circuit Court to pay $116,615 in restitution.
