The following describes a government action that has been resolved by either a settlement or a decision by a court or administrative agency. If the matter is being appealed, it will be noted below.

On December 3, 2018, Michelle Jordan and Michael Welsh, owners of MJ Loan Auditor Group, LLC (MJLAG) were sentenced in the U.S. District Court for the District of Maryland following convictions for conspiracy and mail and wire fraud in a foreclosure prevention fraud scheme.  MJLAG clients were lead to believe that Welsh and Jordan were assisting them to modify their mortgage loans, helping to prevent foreclosure, or helping them obtain title to their homes without any debt or liens against their property.  They purported to conduct "audits" of clients' mortgage loans in order to uncover fraud and alleged illegal acts committed by lenders.  These "audits" were conduced after a "contract fee agreement" was signed by the homeowner with the understanding that they would use these "audits" as evidence in lawsuits against the lenders and in obtaining a loan modification.  Jordan also advised and assisted homeowners to file bankruptcy in order to delay foreclosure as part of the process to prevent foreclosure.  Evidence proved Jordan and Welsh paid a third-party to prepare fraudulent "Forensic Audit Reports" and "Real Estate Securitization Audits" relating to the loans of MJLAG clients.  Jordan was sentenced to serve 57 months in federal prison, 3 years of supervised release, restitution in the amount of $491,036.87, and fees of $1,100.  Welsh was sentenced to serve 46 months in federal prison, 3 years of supervised release, restitution in the amount of $491,036.87, and fees of $1,100.  An appeal was filed on December 14, 2018.
