On November 7, 2019, BBB asked Kristi Carni Holistic Health to substantiate claims made by them that its services will “reverse the disease process,” and that "many people find that symptoms of disease may disappear because there is no longer an underlying problem," as well as "she has been able to analyze our DNA to determine the root of health issues and correct them" and several others like these appearing in online advertising. BBB’s Code of Advertising requires advertisers to be prepared to substantiate such claims. Kristi Carni contacted BBB staff on November 8, 2019 stating she would not be able to substantiate these claims, nor would she modify her website at this time.

On July 22, 2019, BBB began an investigation into the claims made on the Kristi Carni Holistic Health's (KCHH) website and as to the necessity of a license for the type of services they are providing. Specifically, the website states that Kristi Carni can "reverse the disease process" and will analyze "DNA to determine the root of health issues."  These statements, as well as many others imply that she is potentially practicing medicine, which would require licensing from the Maryland Board of Physicians. 

When asked by BBB staff for proof of licensing Carni stated that "I rely on my CNC (Certified Nutritional Consultant) credentials..." and "I don't have traditional medical training so I don't fit in the box..."  She also attempts to release herself from any liability by declaring in at least two instances on her site that she does not "treat, heal, cure or diagnose any disease."  However, according to the Maryland Board of Dietetic Practice, the exception for licensure is for non-medical nutrition and weight loss.  

BBB staff contacted Ms. Krsti Carni again on November 7, 2019 in attempts to have her substantiate or modify the claims on her website, as well as provide licensing or a letter from both the Maryland Board of Dietetic Practice and the Maryland Board of Physicians that a license was not required for her practice.  Carni acknowledged our concerns, but advised that she would not be providing the proper licensure, or changing her website any time soon.
