- If a client has paid a retainer and chooses to not follow through on a legal matter, we usually have such a contingency provided for in our contract for legal representation. With a few exceptions, our policy is to review the work file to see how much work has been done in a client matter from the beginning up to the point a client informs us they do not want to continue and we retain a reasonable amount of funds on deposit for the work done and refund the rest to the client.
