On December 18, 2018, BBB serving Central Indiana challenged several advertisng claims made by Easy Energy Wellness Center, Inc. ("Easy Energy"). These claims appeared on Easy Energy's company website. Specifically, Easy Energy made numerous claims about the safety and efficacy of many "Alternative Health" treatments, as well as claims about the "root causes" of a host of medical conditions. These claims were made in direct conflict with an FDA/Medical disclaimer authored by Easy Energy that explicitly states that none of their products or services are intended to diagnose or treat medical conditions.
On a web page titled "CONDITIONS", Easy Energy stated "The root causer of auto-immune, infertility, leaky gut, and cancer, finally revealed!" Additionally, they claimed that "Easy Energy Wellness Center specializes in conditions that do not have an obvious root cause." Easy Energy also claimed that medical and biological phenomena such as "auto-immune, thyroid, hormones, candida, Lyme metabolism, leaky gut, and more...are just labels that do not explain how your body developed the inflammation in the first place. Finally, they claimed that "the medical system is now trying to put the blame on you (auto-immune & genetics) when a real root cause can not be determined."
The above claims were challenged pursuant to the BBB Code of Advertising, Section 1 - Basic Principles, Section 27 - Superiority Claims-Comparatives-Disparagement, and Section 28 - Objective Superlative Claims. Easy Energy's claims strongly imply to consumers - despite their disclosure stating the opposite - that they intend to diagnose and treat medical conditions. Claims pertaining to "root causes" and disease and medical conditions need to be based on objective scientific data. Statements that disparage conventional medical and diagnostic practice need to be "consistent with the general rules and prohibitions against false and deceptive advertising."
Easy Energy also makes a number of objective claims about the safety, efficacy, and curative potential of several of their specific services. They claim that their Ozone sauna "pokes holes into the pathogen's cell wall" and that "Carbonic acid is used in the beginning of the session to dilate the arteries and relax the central nervous system." They also claim that "a micro-current that is designed to push the pathogens outside the cell membrane is sent through the hands and feet." Ultimately, they claim that using their Ozone sauna have the following effects: "diasbles pathogens, viruses, bacteria, yeast, mold; purifies bloodstream; reduces inflammation; rejuvenates skin."
Describing their Bemer device, Easy Energy claims that the device will result in "30% increased blood flow in just one session." They claim that use of the Bemer "enhances: nurtiednt & oxygen delivery; cardiac function; physical fitness, endurance, strength, energy; concentration, mental acutiy, stress reduction; sleep management."
On Easy Energy's Cellular Recharge page, they claim that “PEMF – puled electromagnetic field – is a high powered magnetic signal that recharges depleted cells by increasing ATP (Adenosine Tri-Phosphate).” You also claim that “PEMF jump-stars the cells with a positive charge to properly repel nearby cells. Therefore, this high-intensity pulse facilitates structural repair and minimizes inflammation by improving cell’s environment.” You list the following as beneficial outcomes of PEMF use: “increase cell energy (ATP); improves cell surface area; repair muscle and joint damage, reduces chronic pain.”
BBB considers the following claims to be objective claims that can be demonstrated by established tests and data. Due to the medical and scientific nature of the claims, any substantiation would necessarily need to adhere to common principles of legitimate scientific inquiry - e.g. blinding, control groups, studies conducted by professional researchers without pecuniary interests.
On December 18, 2019 Easy Energy contacted BBB but did not provide a substantiation. They requested that BBB examine their marketing a second time. During the course of that review, additional claims were challenged. Easy Energy's addition of a "Detox Guide" further implies to consumers that their services and products are intended to diagnose and treat medical conditions and disease. Additionally, in the "Functional Medicine" section of their website, Easy Energy advertises an service called "NAD IV." They claim that "Nicontinamide Adenine Dinucleotide (NAD) infusions help support and jump start the mitochondrial pathways that every cell needs."
As of February 9th, 2019, Easy Energy has not substantiated any of the aforementioned claims. The case has been closed as unsubstantiated.
