- Advertising Review:
On March 3rd, 2019, BBB serving Central Indiana challenged advertising claims made by CandidaMD. Specifically, BBB requested that the business substantiate claims pertaining to the medical and scientific legitimacy of "candida overgrowth" as a significant causal element in diseases such as depression, anxiety, insomnia, and migraine headaches. Moreover, we requested that the business substantiate claims made pertaining to the safety and efficacy of their products as it concerns treating the aforementioned diseases. Because the claims were scientific and medical in nature, BBB requested that any substantiation put forth should abide by commonly recognized principles of scientific inquiry. In summary, BBB requested that the following issues be substantiated:
• That candida overgrowth is a legitimate medical condition and/or disease
• That the presence of candida is of medical importance to anyone not also in possession of a compromised immune system
• That candida overgrowth’s prevalence is statistically significant
• That candida overgrowth is a causal factor in any diseases beyond those commonly associated with candida – e.g. thrush, yeast infections – such as depression, anxiety, insomnia, migraines and headaches
• That the candida related services and products are safe and effective treatments for the aforementioned medical conditions
• That the candida related services and products relieve patients suffering from migraine at the rate reported
• That the candida related products are superior to conventional treatments of psychiatric disorders such as benzodiazepines and psychotherapy
• That the candida related products produce any of the numerous health outcomes as advertisedBBB has received no response from the business. As of April 6, 2019, the case has been close as unsubstantiated
