On March 31, 2021 the Justice Department filed a complaint in the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Georgia seeking to bar Alicia Coarsey, aka Meredith Coarsey, a Tifton, Georgia, tax return preparer from preparing tax returns for others.
The complaint alleges that Alicia Coarsey owns Tax Xpress and prepared federal individual income tax returns that claimed fabricated medical expenses and charitable contributions.
In addition, according to the complaint, Ms. Coarsey fabricated claimed business losses, in some cases for non-existent businesses, in order to claim improper earned income tax credits.
The matter is pending. For more details go to https://www.justice.gov/opa/pr/justice-department-seeks-shut-down-georgia-tax-return-preparer-0.
