Important information

  • Additional Info:
BBB has received a pattern of complaints concerning this business charging for services that were never rendered, products that were never provided.

BBB has received Scam Tracker Reports on this business.

"The victim is presented with a pop-up window or other web site page that offers a deal such as a free year of NetFlix, Sports Tickets, or other promotional offer. After submitting payment info, they are immediately redirected to one of the web sites listed above, making them think they made a mistake and signed up for that subscription. The scammers may charge just $1 initially to see if it will go through, then charge a subscription fee like $39.99. They rely on the victims simply getting frustrated trying to contact them to deal with it. They try to make the victim feel like it's their mistake for signing up. Rarely will they refund the money. Their phone support staff is outsourced and completely disconnected from the business, so basically functions as an answering service that can't do anything. The victim may ultimately recover their money by getting a fraud reimbursement from their financial institution. Meanwhile, the scammers move on to take money from other victims."

"I was looking to get netflix or something similar gave my information and I was directed to this site and I backed out because it was not what I was doing. The next thing I know I was charged $39.99 on my debit card for something I didn't sign up for please be aware of this it is not a good thing."

"THIS COMPANY IS RUNNING AS A BOOK CLUB WHICH I DID NOT ORDER OR SUBSCRIBE TO AND CHARGED MY CREDIT CARD FOR $ 39.99 FOR SOMETHING I DID NOT ASK FOR AND SAID THERE WOULD BE MONTHLY CHARGES FOR THIS SUBSCRIPTION. I HAVE A NEW CREDIT CARD I HAVE ONLY USED TWICE HERE IN OHIO AND DONT KNOW HOW THEY GOT MY NEW CARD NUMBER. I HAVE BEEN HACKED. CONTACTED THEM AND SAID THEY WOULD CANCEL SUBSCRIPTION AND REFUND ME THE $39.99 BACK TO MY CARD. HAVE FILED POLICE REPORT HERE IN OHIO AND WILL CLOSE NEW CARD. AM ALSO CONTACT FTC AND FILING A REPORT ON THESE PEOPLE WHO ARE SCAMMING OTHERS. I LIVE IN OHIO AND DONT READ BOOKS. DONT KNOW HOW MUCH INFO THEY HAVE ON ME BUT I AM REALLY TIRED OF BEING HACKED AND HAVING TO GO THROUGH ALL THIS FOR A BOOK CLUB SUBSCRIPTION. UNHAPPY IN OHIO THEIR COMPANY NAME IS RAMPTON INC. DBA BOOKTRE.COM."

In February 2021, BBB contacted the business requesting information as to why the business believes the customers are filing the complaints, and what actions the business has taken to help eliminate the causes of complaints.

The business submitted the following as a responses to the BBB inquiry:

"A very small minority of our customers have questions regarding their subscriptions to us. They mistakenly call a different company (booktree.us) as one of our DBAs (booktre.com) looks very similar. Our customers are incorrectly told by this company that we are scamming them and that they should make a report in order to get a refund. This is why only one of our websites, booktre.com has lots of complaints. Other customers see these complaints and use it as a way to get a refund rather than approaching us directly and allowing us to provide clarifications or refunds as needed."

"We have asked the company with similar name to ours to please give our customer service phone number to our users if they mistakenly call them instead, however the other company feels their resources for support are being used to answer calls from our users, thus angering them and they falsely tell our users that we are scamming them and to file a BBB complaint. We likewise now plan to change the name of our website Booktre.com in order to end this confusion."

The company requests that if you have any complaints or concerns, please contact them prior to filing a complaint.
