Wildfires across the Los Angeles area are expected to become the costliest such disaster in U.S. history. As victims cope with the aftermath, it is crucial to stay vigilant against opportunistic scammers. In addition, those wishing to help by donating money or supplies should carefully research organizations before contributing. BBB offers guidance to protect both victims and donors. Important information

  • Advertising Review:
In June 2021, BBB contacted Affordable Fence Center regarding advertising claims appearing on its website (http://www.affordablefencecenter.com), Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/MartyFence/), and Thumbtack listing at https://www.thumbtack.com/fl/jacksonville/fences/affordable-fence-center/service/349300765854433299.

The following claims appear on it website and Thumbtack pages:
"Both Aluminum and Vinyl fences come with a LifeTime Warranty on products with our company."
"We are your affordable fence installation option, and we completely guarantee our work.
    "Best warranties and service."
According to the BBB Code of Advertising, when using the terms warranty or guarantee in product advertising, the advertiser must clearly and conspicuously include a statement that the complete details of the warranty can be seen prior to sale at the advertiser's location or viewed on the advertiser’s website. When advertising lifetime warranties or guarantees or similar representations, the advertisement must clearly and conspicuously disclose its intended meaning of the term lifetime. BBB  requested that it add the terms of its warranties and guarantees to its advertising but did not receive a reply nor did the business modify its advertising.

Its advertising includes multiple references to lowest and best prices:
Website: "We provide the very best workmanship and warranties at the most affordable prices -no other company offers a better price for the quality we provide!"
Facebook: "There is a difference - call us to find out why we can provide top quality and superior workmanship- and still beat any written estimate!"
Thumbtack: "We will beat any written quote so you are guaranteed the best products, expert workmanship and lowest price for overall best quality and service in town."
Advertisements which set out company policy of matching or bettering competitors' prices may be used, provided that the offer is made in good faith; the offer clearly and conspicuously discloses fully any material and significant conditions which apply including, if applicable, what evidence a consumer must present to take advantage of the offer; and the terms of the offer are not unrealistic or unreasonable for the consumer.  BBB requested that the business add the terms of its offer wherever it is advertised but did not receive a reply. The business did not modify its claims.

At its website and Facebook pages, the business states that it offers ".. professional installation and wholesale fencing materials to the public.
According to the BBB Code of Advertising, the phrase 'wholesale' can be used where the prices are the current prices which retailers usually and customarily pay when they buy such products for resale. The business did not provide substantiation that the prices it charges the public are comparable to those prices charged by wholesalers in its trade area, nor did it modify the statements.
