  In July 2020, BBB contacted this firm concerning multiple claims on its website.

  The claim "Gainesville, Florida's #1 Source to BUY Mattresses & Furniture with the Highest Quality & the Lowest Prices in Town!" appears at its home page.  

  According to the BBB Code of Advertising, superlative statements in advertisements about the tangible qualities and performance values of a product or service are objective claims for which the advertiser must possess substantiation as they can be based upon accepted standards or tests. As statements of fact, such claims, like "Gainesville, Florida's #1 Source to BUY Mattresses & Furniture.." can be proved or disproved. BBB requested that the company provide substantiation for this claim but did not receive a reply.

  The website has multiple "lowest price" claims, such as the previously noted statement. Despite an advertiser's best efforts to ascertain competitive prices, the rapidity with which prices fluctuate and the difficulty of determining prices of all sellers at all times preclude an absolute knowledge of the truth of unqualified underselling/lowest price claims. These claims require substantiation. BBB did not receive a reply from the company requesting that it either provide substantiation for these pricing claims or modify them.

  At the company's Home page are the statements, "LOWER than any other  Furniture or Mattress store in Gainesville/Central Florida.  We we [sic] always beat every store's price and we keep most of our products in stock which means you can pick it up or get it delivered quickly." 
  
  Advertisements which set out company policy of matching or bettering competitors' prices may be used, provided that the offer is made in good faith;
  the offer clearly and conspicuously discloses fully any material and significant conditions which apply including, if applicable, what evidence a consumer must present to take advantage of the offer; and the terms of the offer are not unrealistic or unreasonable for the consumer. BBB requested that the terms of this policy be added to its website and wherever it is advertised but did not receive a reply.

  Also at the company's website: 

  "Tired of paying retail?... We offer near- Wholesale Pricing on Name Brand Pillowtop, Plush & Memory Foam Mattress Sets, Solid wood Bedrooms, Designer Sofas, Sectionals, Recliners, Dining Rooms, Dinettes, Coffee and End Tables, Futons, TV Stands, and Office Furniture."

  "Gainesville Discount Furniture buys many direct truckload buys from NAME BRAND, trusted manufacturers....Our wholesale prices, however, are much lower than those of many retailer's."
  
  According to the BBB Code of Advertising, the term “wholesale price,” can be used where advertised prices are the current prices which retailers usually and customarily pay when they buy such products for resale. Where the advertiser buys its products from a manufacturer, a claim that it sells at “wholesale prices” can be used if its prices are comparable to those charged by wholesalers in its trade area.  The company did not respond to BBB's request that it provide substantiation that its prices are comparable to the prices that other wholesalers in its area are charging.
