- Advertising Review:In August 2022, BBB contacted Central Builders regarding claims in its advertising.
Its website states "Central Builders, Inc. is a member of the local Home Builders Association and is locally owned and operated." The business states on its website, Facebook, and Twitter pages that "Central Builders, Inc. is a fully licensed and insured building company that has been doing the highest quality work since 1983." According to the BBB Code of Advertising, the primary responsibility for truthful and non-deceptive advertising rests with the advertiser. Advertisers should be prepared to substantiate any objective claims or offers made before publication or broadcast. Upon request, they should present such substantiation promptly to the advertising medium or BBB. In addition, Connecticut state law requires that every contractor include his/her Home Improvement Contractor (HIC) Registration number on all advertising. BBB requested that Central Builders provide proof of current licensing, insurance, and membership in the Home Builders Association and suggested that the business its HIC number to its advertising to become compliant with Connecticut State Law, but did not receive a response.
Central Builders' website includes the statement "Satisfaction Guaranteed." When using the term guarantee, an advertiser must clearly and conspicuously include a statement that the complete details can be seen prior to sale. These details must disclose any material limitations on the guarantee. Advertisers should only use satisfaction guarantee if the seller refunds the full purchase price of the advertised product or service at the consumer's request. BBB suggested the business link to the terms of its guarantee but did not receive a reply.
