BBB has learned from a complaint filed with BBB that contact is made via Facebook asking the individual if they are interested in becoming a nanny (au pair) to a US host family. The victim is given the name of the family and contact is made via Facebook. The interested party is led to believe they are signing up with Cultural Homestay International (CHI) and asked to wire money in order to get the process started.
CHI informs BBB it is not their policy to receive any monies directly from prospective au pairs. Au Pairs are initially screened and processed with the company's sending partner in the person's home country. Before final acceptance into the program CHI will personally interview the candidate via skype, once accepted all monies are handled directly between the sending partner and the au pair. CHI asks anyone with concerns or questions about their process to contact them directly.
Be wary of a company requesting payment via cash, wire transfer, money paks, money orders or cashiers checks as there are no safeguards in place. Complaints can be filed with Internet Crime Complaint Center (IC3) at www.ic3.gov.
