On March 19, 2024, the California Attorney General announced a settlement with Mariner Health Care, Inc. (Case No.: RG21095881).
The settlement stems from the preliminary injunction that was granted on January 6, 2023, alleging that Mariner Health Care, Inc. violated California's Unfair Competition Law and False Advertising Law. According to court documents it was alleged that Mariner’s Health Care had understaffed facilities, was negligent with patient care and presented exaggerated advertised rating to the Center for Medicare and Medicaid services.
As part of the settlement Mariner Health Care, Inc. will be required to improve their practices and services for residents, will have an independent monitor for no less than 3 years,pay $2.25 million in investigative cost and $15.5 million in civil penalties.
