On November 28, 2018, 4 Legged Retriever, and its owner Hunter Nelson, came to the attention of BBB. At that time BBB received a consumer complaint alleging that while in the care of Hunter Nelson, the dog died of a snake bite. What was to be a 4 week obedience class, turned into a 12 week ordeal for the consumer, resulting in a text message, from Hunter Nelson, stating the dog died and was buried. BBB spoke to the consumer in early January and she stated she was provided a police escort to Hunter Nelson's home to verify if the dog that was buried was hers. She confirmed it was not.

Multiple consumers allege that Hunter Nelson accepted payments for training their dogs, but when the dogs are returned, they have little to no training experience. One consumer reported that her dog was sent to training and was never returned. Another consumer reports that the dog returned to them was not their dog and later discovered their dog had been given or sold to a local hunting club. The dog has since been reunited with its owner.

On January 10, 2019 and January 30, 2019 BBB reached out to the business seeking information as to his training credential, location of his training facility, copies of his contracts, average cost and timeframe for training and other general questions. As of April 23, 2019 the business has not responded. At this time, BBB does not know if the business is still operational.
