- Additional Info:On June 19, 2015: Consumer Protection BC has issued a compliance order and administrative penalty against Hansons' Arbor Funeral Chapel and Crematorium, a funeral home based in Penticton, BC, for violating BC's consumer protection laws.
A recent Consumer Protection BC investigation determined that Hansons' Arbor Funeral Chapel and Crematorium contravened sections of BC's Cremation, Interment and Funeral Services Act (CIFSA). As a result, Consumer Protection BC levied the following administrative penalty to Hansons' Arbor Funeral Chapel and Crematorium:
For a contravention of allowing unlicensed employees under its direction to act as funeral directors by negotiating or entering into funeral services contracts with consumers (contrary to section 55 of the CIFSA), an administrative penalty of $1,000.
In addition to this administrative penalty, Hansons' Arbor Funeral Chapel and Crematorium was issued a compliance order that requires the business to take steps to ensure all future funeral arrangements and services are only carried out by licensed funeral directors.
By law, the business has 30 days to request a reconsideration of these decisions.
