Alert
February 2024, BBB received Scam Tracker reports alerting of Vit
Logistics LLC aka Vit Post operating as a work-at-home scheme using a reshipping scam. Complainants
stated they were contacted through Indeed for a “quality control job” where the
company would ship boxes to their home for them to repackage then reship the
boxes using their provided labels. After a quick phone interview and job offer,
consumers were asked to give personal information and picture of
the front and back of a valid government-issued ID with a selfie holding the
ID. Promised compensation was $3000 per month plus a $40 bonus per shipped
package.
BBB found both addresses for the company to be invalid. The
West Virginia address, 125 Lakeview Dr #4, Charleston, WV 25313, was actually a Planet
Fitness and the Canadian address, 156 Av. d'Iberia,
Candiac, QC J5R 3L6, Canada, was found to be nonexistant.
According to Whois.com, the company website, www.vitlogistics.com, was registered on January 9, 2024
for one year. The company filed with the WV Secretary of State, received an EIN
from the Department of Treasury and have two falsified business letters they
are sending consumers to show their legitimacy. BBB is working with the
government entities to retract these business documents.
BBB tips for consumers looking for work from home opportunities:
- Pay
attention to unusual procedures. Job offers without in-person
interviews are a red flag of employment scams. Be very suspicious if an
unfamiliar “employer” or recruiter asks for your Social Security number,
birth date, bank account number, or other private information that could
be used to steal your identity. Always be wary of work-from-home,
package reshipment, and secret shopper positions. A company sending you
items in somebody else's name, then asking you to reship them, ask
yourself - why aren’t they just doing it themselves?
- Ask questions. If you want to take advantage of a work-from-home opportunity, you’ll need to do your research. The FTC’s Business Opportunity Rule has safeguards in place to make sure you have the information you need to tell whether a work-at-home opportunity is a risky business. Under the Rule, sellers have to give you a one-page disclosure document that offers key pieces of information about the opportunity. Use the information in the disclosure document to fact-check what the seller tells you. Get as much information as you can about the job before accepting the offer.
- Report the bad actors. You can report employment, reshipping and work-at-home scams to BBB ScamTracker, the Federal Trade Commission, U.S. Postal Inspection Service, and the WV Attorney General.
