BBB has received reports from consumers stating they were contacted at their doorstep by Wisconsin Best Tree Guys and solicited for stump removal and tree trimming. Some consumers report that they were asked to pay cash.
BBB reminds consumers to 1) Never pay in cash. Always pay with credit card if possible (if not, pay with check) 2) Make sure you get an address, phone number, and the owner's name before hiring any company. Check on companies first with bbb.org. As well, ask for references that you can check with before hiring. Never make a quick decision on your front porch. 3) Ask for proof of insurance and a business card. 4) Make sure you receive a written contract for any work you agree upon with any contractor. Be sure that the company's full name, address, phone number is listed on the form along with the name of the owner/contractor. 5) Note the vehicle license plate number when approached by a door-to-door solicitor.
