The following describes a pending government action that has been formally brought by a government agency but has not yet been resolved. We are providing a summary of the governments allegations, which have not yet been proven.
On July 27, 2018, in the State of Washington Pierce County District Court, Robert W. Ferguson, Attorney General of Washington, in the name and by the authority of the State of Washington accused Maurice Terry and Edwin Cruz, hereinafter (“Defendants”) of the crimes of Criminal Contempt (1 count) and Prohibited Practices – Assistance with Immigration Matters. Cruz has been charged with three counts of prohibited practices, while Terry has been charged with one count. Each count is a gross misdemeanor. If convicted, the two could face up to 364 days in jail and fines up to $5,000 per count.
After an Attorney General investigation in 2011, Cruz and Terry entered into a consent decree in which they agreed to stop providing unqualified assistance to Washingtonians in immigration matters. A judge found that they violated the decree in 2016 and barred the two from providing immigration services in any capacity. Despite that court order, AGO investigators found that Cruz and Terry continued to provide immigration services without being qualified to do so from July 2016 through June 2017.
