Alert
In April 2019, BBB attempted to contact My Best Puppy (mybestpuppy.com & nextpuppies.com) after receiving a complaint alleging that a consumer paid $499 for a puppy. The consumer had no further contact from the business and did not receive the advertised puppy.
BBB asked My Best Puppy to provide basic information including its physical address, a working telephone number, names & contact information of responsible management, verification of state and/or federal licensure to breed and/or transport pets, and a completed BBB Standard Business Questionnaire. BBB also requested references with full contact information for at least ten (10) U.S. consumers who had successfully purchased pets as a result of its services. Additionally, BBB requested substantiation of guarantees and testimonials posted on the My Best Puppy & Next Puppies websites. The results of that inquiry are reported in the Advertising Review section on this Business Profile.
As of April 15, 2019, BBB had received no response from My Best Puppy. Registry information shows that the websites originate from a private domain provider; no location can be determined. BBB has not been able to locate information connecting the websites to any corporation or other entity in the United States and the Richmond, Virginia address used is fictitious.
BBB has reason to believe that mybestpuppy.com & nextpuppies.com are fraudulent websites with connections to pet transportation scams. BBB urges consumers to use extreme caution before making a purchase or sharing any other information with My Best Puppy or any related websites.
Important Information
Advertising Review
In April 2019, BBB attempted to contact My Best Puppy regarding guarantee claims as well as a number of testimonials on its websites (mybestpuppy.com & nextpuppies.com).
According to the Code of Advertising, advertising which uses testimonials or endorsements is likely to mislead or confuse if: they are not genuine and do not actually represent the current opinion of the endorser(s); the endorser has not been a bona fide user of the endorsed product or service at the time when the endorsement was given, where the advertiser represents that the endorser uses the product or service; and/or the advertiser represents, directly or by implication, that the endorser is an “actual consumer” when such is not the case and the advertisement fails to clearly and conspicuously disclose that fact.
Additionally, both of the websites state “if you change your mind for any reason, contact us, we’ll pay a return ticket for the dog and you will get 100% refund on the purchase price” and (FAQ pages) “Our lifetime satisfaction guarantee certifies that puppies are free from any birth defects or any genetically inherited disease. If found other, we shall exchange puppy for a full refund any time, within the lifetime of the puppy.”
According to the BBB Code of Advertising, when using the term “warranty” or “guarantee” in product advertising, the advertiser must clearly and conspicuously include a statement that the complete details of the warranty can be seen prior to sale at the advertiser's location, viewed on the advertiser’s website or, in the case of mail or telephone order sales, made available free on written request. Advertisers should only use “satisfaction guarantee,” “money back guarantee,” “free trial offer,” or similar representations in advertising if the seller or manufacturer refunds the full purchase price of the advertised product or service at the consumer's request. When advertising “lifetime” warranties or guarantees or similar representations, the advertisement must clearly and conspicuously disclose its intended meaning of the term “lifetime.” Sellers should advertise that a product or service guaranteed only if the seller promptly and fully performs its obligations under guarantee.
Based on the Code of Advertising, BBB requested substantiation that testimonials on the website were genuine testimonials from bona fide customers. BBB also asked the business to add appropriate disclosures of terms and conditions related to the guarantee claims.
BBB’s advertising inquiry was related to an investigation into My Best Puppy’s business practices. The results of that inquiry are reported in the Investigations section of this Business Profile.
BBB must report that My Best Puppy did not respond to requests to voluntarily substantiate, modify, or discontinue its guarantee claims and testimonials based on Code of Advertising guidelines.
