State of Texas v. HPC Techs, Inc.

The following describes a government action that has been resolved by either a settlement or a decision by a court or administrative agency. If the matter is being appealed, it will be noted below.

On December 8, 2017 Texas Attorney General filed a Temporary Injunction in the Travis County District Court.  Charges filed allege AMD Tech Solutions, LLC, BCP Techs, LLC, Com Connect It Services LLC, Cyptus Technologies LLC, Escutcheon Technologies, LLC, HPC Techs LLC, Marketstream Techs LLC, Texas Tech Connect, LLC, The Rhombus Techs LLC, Vap Blaze LLC, Vap Techs, LLC, Wap It Services, LLC, Dilip Bose, Mohit Arora, Ritika Arora, and Anna Shellner are in violation of state law prohibiting deceptive sales tactics.  The lawsuit alleges the businesses used phone calls and pop up messages on consumers’ computer screens to convince consumers to pay for unnecessary computer repair services. Charges allege the pop up messages were designed to appear to come from Microsoft or other companies, and falsely claimed that the consumer’s computers were infected by virus or malware. The businesses would convince consumers to let them remotely access their computers and would use fake “diagnostic tests” and would pressure consumers to pay hundreds and sometimes thousands of dollars to “fix” their computers.

On February 26, 2019 the businesses and individuals involved entered an Agreed Judgement and Permanent Injunction. The settlement permanently closes the businesses, provides restitution of 6.5 million dollars, includes a civil penalty of 3 million dollars, and 500 thousand dollars in attorney’s fees and investigative costs. Money collected will be allocated first as restitution, then attorney’s fees and civil penalties.
