Ad Review 1

On July 15, 2015, BBB Serving Dallas and Northeast Texas requested that the business substantiate, modify, or discontinue its advertised claims stating “Diana’s Public Notary/Notaria Publica,” “Notaria Publica en la area de Oak Cliff Tx,” “Notaria Publica.”

The Foreword to the BBB Code of Advertising states “In all instances, advertisers, agencies and media should also be sure that they are in compliance with local, state, federal and provincial laws and regulations governing advertising.”

BBB is not a governmental agency, we do not interpret or enforce the law and our suggestions do not provide safe harbor from governmental agencies. However, when BBB is aware of laws that may be applicable to advertised claims, we bring these to a business’s attention as a courtesy.

The terms “notario” and “notario publico” can be misleading and have very different meanings in other countries. The State of Texas specifically prohibits use of the term "notario publico" to advertise notary public services.
