BBB promotes truth in advertising by contacting advertisers whose claims conflict with the BBB Code of Advertising.  These claims may come to our attention from our internal review of advertising, consumer complaints, and competitor challenges.  BBB asks advertisers to prove their claims, change ads to make offers more clear to consumers, and remove misleading or deceptive statements. 

On July 26, 2023, BBB contacted Nova Vita Wellness Centers regarding advertised claims for the use of Ketamine including anxiety, Depression, PTSD, Chronic Pain, Treatment Resistant Depression, unipolar and bipolar depression, OCD, and suicidal drive.

BBB requested Nova Vita to provide evidence from recent, reliable, and competent studies or other objective data which may include scientific findings, FDA approvals, double-blind placebo-controlled clinical studies, or other objective data regarding the specific products used to substantiate this claim.

BBB discovered according to the Food and Drug Administration, Ketamine infusions are not FDA-approved for the treatment of any psychiatric disorder including depression or pain.  BBB only confirmed one form of ketamine approved by the FDA for use in depression in the form of a nasal spray called Esketamine branded under the name Spravato. Ketamine is also accepted for short-term sedation and anesthesia.

Nova Vita Wellness Centers provided studies regarding Ketamine and depression.   BBB requested a response if their treatment was FDA approved and to discontinue any expressed or implied claims without FDA approval.

Nova Vita Wellness Centers also advertises claimed results for their IV Vitamin Infusions and Booster services.  Specifically, Nova Vita Wellness Centers claims including:

 “An intravenous (IV) infusion ensures for 100% bioavailability, meaning that the contest of the infusions are completely absorbed into the body. Additionally, as each IV therapy is specially formulated to provide targeted benefits and address individual needs, our patients are able to choose the infusion that best meets their requirements, whether it be to optimize their health or address specific health concerns and deficiencies.”

“Our vitamin therapies were developed in collaboration with a licensed nutritionist, pharmacist, psychiatrist, and anesthetist to ensure that the infusions are effective for their intended use.”

“Nearly everyone can benefit from IV Vitamin Therapy.”

“Boosters provide immediate absorption of select vitamins, nutrients and antioxidants the promote health and wellbeing.”

“Can I combine with an IV? This is the recommended method for taking boosters as some of the benefits from the boosters can be amplified if taken together and make a more lasting effect.”

“Basic IV Vitamin Infusions (Level 1), Hydrate feeling dehydrated, dizzy, or simply off? Get instant relief and replenish the body.”

“Beauty/Body Let your natural beauty shine through when you repair your hair, skin, and nails to pristine condition.”

BBB Code of Advertising states claims relating to performance, energy savings, safety, efficacy, or results for a product or service should be based on recent and competent testing or other objective data, and that upon request, advertisers have a responsibility to have substantiation for all claims made.

BBB requested Nova Vita Wellness Centers to provide evidence from recent, reliable, and competent studies or other objective data which may include scientific findings, FDA approvals, double-blind placebo-controlled clinical studies, or other objective data regarding the specific product to substantiate the advertisements’ efficacy and safety claims.

Additionally, Bioavailability claims require clinical evidence that the product has been tested on humans.  BBB requested Nova Vita Wellness to provide substantiation proving the bioavailability claim.

Nova Vita Wellness Centers also advertises ozone therapy services BBB’s research found that the FDA has stated: “Ozone is a toxic gas with no known useful medical application in specific, adjunctive, or preventative therapy.  For ozone to be effective as a germicide, it must be present in a concentration far greater than that which can be safely tolerated by man and animals.” BBB requested Nova Vita Wellness Centers to discontinue any express or implied disease claims without FDA approval. 

Nova Vita Wellness Centers advertises the benefits of NAD+ Infusions including DNA repair, immune health, energy, and alertness, athletic performance, and heart health.  BBB Code of Advertising States: Claims relating to performance, energy savings, safety, efficacy, or results for a product or service should be based on recent and competent testing or other objective data.

Nova Vita Wellness provided articles to BBB regarding NAD+ which stated that  there is only “suggestive evidence, in the form of a few successful and sufficiently powered clinical trials.”

BBB also expressed concerns that NAD+ Infusions are not FDA-approved for the treatment of any condition.

BBB requested Nova Vita discontinue any expressed or implied disease claims without FDA approval.

As of September 21, 2023, the business failed to respond to BBB’s follow-up communication regarding the advertised claims.
