The following describes a government action that has been resolved by either a settlement or a decision by a court or administrative agency. If the matter is being appealed, it will be noted below.

On April 3, 2019, the Washington Attorney General's Office ("AGO") entered into a Consent Decree with G6, corporate-owner of Motel 6. The settlement resolved allegations that the business violated the Consumer Protection Act and the Washington Law against Discrimination. AGO alleges that Motel 6 voluntarily provided the private, personal information (driver's license numbers, dates of birth, etc.) of thousands of its guests to the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement ("ICE") without a warrant for at least two years without the guests' knowledge or consent, even though its privacy policy assured consumers it would protect this information. The AGO contends Motel 6 knew that ICE used its guest lists to target customers based on national origin, including customers with Latino-sounding names.

The business has agreed to pay $12 million into a settlement fund, which will provide restitution to affected guests, administer a claims program, and compensate the AGO's lawsuit fees. The Consent Decree was for settlement purposes only and should not be considered as an admission of guilt or finding of violation of the law.
