Stated Purpose
To provide a refuge for animals and a healing place for people while promoting environmental stewardship.
Programs
Sanctuary One’s mission is based on a three-pronged commitment to serving animals, humans and the earth. Since its founding in 2007, Sanctuary One has provided a safe home and refuge for more than 700 rescued farm animals and house pets. Often mistreated, sometimes sick and almost always frightened, the animals are rescued from Oregon, Washington and Northern California in collaboration with area shelters, rescues and law-enforcement agencies. Once an animal arrives on the farm, each one receives personalized attention, loving rehabilitation and the opportunity for a peaceful retirement or adoption. The 55-acre working care farm also provides food for the animals and community members and a therapeutic haven for people of all ages. As a care farm, Sanctuary One providesalternative non-clinical therapies for both physical and mental health through animal-assisted therapy and therapeutic horticulture. The structured approach services people traditionally in marginalized and vulnerable populations; working with agencies focused on people with intellectual and/or developmental differences, anxiety, mental health challenges, addiction history and others, promoting physical activity.Sanctuary One began donating produce from the Learning Gardens in 2017 and donated over 500 pounds of produce to ACCESS, a local food bank system in 2019.
