BBB files indicate a Pattern of Complaints concerning the account management policies of Hinge. Since mid-2020, BBB has noted a significant increase in the number of complaints filed with BBB against Hinge, Inc. Consumers are telling BBB about their experiences after downloading the Hinge dating app. Numerous consumers claim their accounts were terminated by the company with no explanation. Some consumers say they were told they were banned, while others allege their accounts were closed without warning. Many consumers mention they attempt to appeal the decision to terminate the account but cannot get a response from Hinge, Inc. about the reason for the account de-activation or how to facilitate a re-instatement of the account.

As of 5/28/2021, Hinge, Inc. has responded to BBB and indicated it has already introduced several measures intended to ensure the safety of its community and enhance the customer experience, as follows: consulting with industry experts and building a team to identify and enact measures to ensure the safety of the Hinge community; implementing response emails to banned users to notify them that the ban is due to the user violating Hinge’s Terms of Service;  implementing an appeals process for banned users and introducing measures to further improve efficiency in addressing appeals; launching a policy to help educate users and make clear the company's expectations as to use of the Hinge service and reporting of other users.
