Mission"is committed to giving families living with autism spectrum disorders the time, support and opportunities they need to raise healthy, successful children in a strong, supportive environment."ProgramsTheLoveU2Pieces Social ConnectionsProgram was developed tosupport our Mission as we seek to provide:Opportunitiesfor children on the autism spectrum to develop skills in the areas of socialinteraction and leadership.Informationand activities for parents of children on the autism spectrum that will supporttheir efforts in raising their children in a strong, supportive environment.A forumfor parents of children on the autism spectrum to connect and share concerns,difficulties, strategies, and triumphs as they move through their journey.Social Skills GroupsGroups aredesigned with the following beliefs in mind:We believe learning social skills in the natural environment is critical to the child’s ability to generalize those skills to home, school and the community;We believe that children on the autism spectrum are truly unique and deserve support toward their individual goals within the group setting;We believe the more opportunities we can provide for safe, social interaction for children on the autism spectrum, the more comfortably and easily these children will integrate into the greater world.Each SocialConnectionsGroup Session is 8 weeks in duration. Each week, the childrenmeet for 60 minutes with an experienced ABA facilitator and master’s levelcounselor, who will work on group goals, as well as individual goals with thechildren.GroupGoalsThrough theuse of age appropriate play, boysand girls on the autism spectrum willlearn and practice:* betterconversational skills*showinginterest in others* thenuances of verbaland nonverbal communication*appropriate assertiveness and cooperative playskills*developing and buildingfriendships and relationships.All of ourgroups are facilitated by Lead Therapist,Colleen Matlock, LPC, and assisted by experienced therapists KylaSewell and Sarah Williford. Our pre-kindergarten groups work from a structuredcurriculum with thematic goals each week. Groups for kids age 3 and aboveutilize Michelle Garcia Winner’s Social Thinking Curriculum.
