Pattern of Complaints
BBB files indicate that this business has a pattern of complaints concerning properties in Columbia (South America). One complainant reported paying a $600 deposit for an apartment he rented for six months. When he and his wife left the apartment six months later, in good condition according to his complaint, their deposit was withheld. The other complainant reported that Mr. Shoemaker said he (Mr. Shoemaker) was building an apartment in Columbia and had deposits on all of the units except one, so if the complainant put down a deposit on the remaining unit, construction would begin. The complainant was to pay a 5% deposit and make monthly payments until he owned the unit, at which time he could resell it. According to the complaint, Mr. Shoemaker said the apartments would be completed by Fall 2014. After paying $22,685.03, and with two payments remaining, the complaint reported being told that Mr. Shoemaker had not sold the other units and that Mr. Shoemaker did not have legal rights to the land. The complainant has not received any money back and the project has been halted. The BBB notified Mr. Shoemaker about the complaints and he forwarded documents pertaining to the complaints. However, Mr. Shoemaker did not return the information questionnaire the BBB requested that he complete and return nor did he provide a written response to the BBB's Pattern of Complaint letter, which was to outline how his company would prevent similar complaints from occurring the future.
