Government Actions
State of Michigan v John & Michele Church
The following describes a government action that has been resolved by either a settlement or a decision by a court or administrative agency. If the matter is being appealed, it will be noted below.
On January 2, 2025, the business entered into a Consent Order of Conditional Dismissal in the 6th Circuit Court in Oakland County, Michigan. The order settles allegations by the Michigan Attorney General that the business and its owners, John and Michele Church, breached a 2018 Assurance of Voluntary Compliance, violated provisions of the Michigan Consumer Protection Act (MCPA), and engaged in unfair and deceptive business practices.
Under terms of the consent order, the business agreed to:
• Pay $50,000 to the Michigan Department of Attorney General, with the potential for distribution to affected consumers at the Attorney General’s discretion.
• Permanently cease all snow removal, lawn care, and landscaping services in Michigan, including dissolving their business entities and being barred from incorporating, operating, or working for any business offering such services.
• Declare all non-disparagement clauses in their consumer contracts unenforceable.
• Provide documentation of compliance with the order.
Michigan consumers who believe they should be considered for a reimbursement under this consent order are encouraged to contact the Department of Attorney General’s Consumer Protection Team: Consumer Protection Team 517-335-7599 | Case No. 2023-204583-CP
Pattern of Complaints
In February 2019, BBB investigated Titan Seasonal Services’ business practices. This investigation was prompted by a pattern of complaints surrounding failed delivery of services along with not honoring customers request for a refund when work is not performed. BBB attempted to reach out to the company via mail, telephone and email. After multiple requests to the business for further information on noted customer service, agreement standards and refund policy issues, the company failed to respond to BBB. Consumers with outstanding concerns are still encouraged to file a complaint for BBB records, but may also wish to contact legal counsel and/or MI Office of the Attorney General Consumer Protection Division at: www.michigan.gov/ag
