Additional Information for Workplace Compliance Services

BBB has noted a pattern of complaints against Workplace Compliance Services, also known as ANS Inc. The Lansing-based company is operating in multiple states under assumed names. Often the business adds the name of the state to Workplace Compliance Services, Assumed Name Services or Business Compliance Services to make it appear the company is based in that state. Complaints allege Fata's company sends businesses documents related to state mandated annual corporate filings. The complaints claim the documents make it appear they are from, or affiliated with, the government. Similar complains have been lodged against other businesses linked to Fata, including The LLPS Inc. The BBB has attempted to contact Steven Fata, ANS Inc., and Workplace Compliance Services for comment, but as of 3/28/19 the BBB has not received a response.

The following describes a pending government action that has been formally brought by a government agency but has not yet been resolved. We are providing a summary of the government's allegations, which have not yet been proven.

On 3/6/2019 the Florida Attorney General filed a lawsuit against Steven Fata and ANS Inc., one of the names used by Workplace Compliance Services. The lawsuit alleges mailings by Fata's company violate Florida Consumer Protection laws and a 2018 Florida law that makes it crime to impersonate a government agency. The allegations in the lawsuit mirror complaints received by the Better Business Bureau Serving Western Michigan and other bureaus across the country. Those complaints allege Fata's company sends businesses documents related to state mandated annual corporate filings. The complaints claim the documents make it appear they are from, or affiliated with, the government. Fata and ANS Inc. have registered their business in multiple states, often adding the state name to Workplace Compliance Services, Assumed Name Services or Business Compliance Services to make it appear the company is based in that state. However, the company is really based in Lansing, MI. The Florida lawsuit also names LLPS Inc., also known as The Mandatory Poster Agency, and makes similar allegations. Steven Fata was formerly an owner of The Mandatory Poster Agency, which is now owned by his brother Joseph Fata, who is also named in the Florida lawsuit. The BBB has attempted to contact Steven Fata, ANS Inc., and Workplace Compliance Services for comment, but as of 3/28/19 the BBB has not received a response.
