Customer Complaint
The BBB has undertaken an investigation into this company due to a sudden influx of complaints involving similar issues. Specifically, complainants allege that they received in the mail an OSHA Guideline book and invoice. Consumers state that they never ordered the book and did not authorize shipment. According to consumers, Blue Gavel Press would state that they either had to pay for the book or pay to ship it back to the company.
On May 25, 2012 the BBB contacted Blue Gavel Press asking them to address their pattern of complaints and to come up with a solution to resolve the underlying reason for complaints. According to the company, they recently purchased the rights to sell the OSHA Guideline book from a company called Aspen Publishers. Aspen Publishers gave Blue Gavel Press a list of 44,000 names and addresses for book delivery; however, they never gave Blue Gavel Press the updated information regarding who cancelled and returned the books. Due to this oversight, customers that had previously cancelled their subscription with Aspen, ultimately received the OSHA book from Blue Gavel.
In late June 2012, Blue Gavel Press was finally provided with an updated standing order list from Aspen Publishers. Once the new standing order list was received, Blue Gavel Press immediately began to only ship standing orders to those customers. However, they recognize that some customers previously received cancelled orders from the old update service list. At this time they ask that any customer that has received a book whom had cancelled their order with Aspen Publishers to personally contact Blue Gavel Press and inform them of their cancellation. At that time, Blue Gavel Press will resolve the issue with that customer individually.
