Ad Review
On 5/26/2011, the BBB contacted Bob Boland Ford regarding a local advertisement. The ad in question stated:
"During the Drive Lucky Experiment Boldand is going to give every resident a minimum of $3,000 for any old beat-up car, truck, van or SUV. It doesn't matter what condition it's in."
The BBB asked the company to verify whether or not the trade in allowance is deducted from a vehicle's current selling price without a trade-in.
According to the BBB code of Advertising Guidelines, a selling price must be clearly disclosed in the advertisement; furthermore, it is misleading to offer a fixed and arbitrary allowance regardless of the size, type, age condition or value of the article traded in, for the purpose of disguising the true retail price or creating a false impression that a reduced or special price is obtainable only by such trade- in.
The advertisement also stated that one could receive "instant credit approval by visiting bobbolandford.com." The BBB also asked that the company verify that credit is extended to all persons regardless of credit worthiness or financial ability to pay.
To date, the only correspondence received from Bob Boland ford is a statement that they would be looking into these matters. After a subsequent request, the company did not offer any substantiation or verification of their claims to the BBB.
