On February 16, 2021, Pilgrim’s Pride Corporation (Pilgrim’s) entered into a plea agreement with the United States District Court for the District of Colorado.
Pilgrim’s pleaded guilty to participating in a conspiracy to suppress and eliminate competition by rigging bids and fixing prices and other price-related terms for broiler chicken products sold in the United States, in violation of the Sherman Antitrust Act, 15 U.S.C. § 1.
According to the plea agreement, from as early as 2012 and continuing at least into 2017, Pilgrim’s participated in a conspiracy to suppress and eliminate competition for sales of broiler chicken products in the United States that affected at least $361 million in Pilgrim’s sales of broiler chicken products.
The District Court sentenced Pilgrim’s to pay a criminal fine of $107,923,572.
