On July 1, 2022, as part of an industry-wide review of CBD businesses in our service area, Better Business Bureau contacted VetCS LLC concerning the following advertising claims found on their website, http://www.vetcs.com/:
- "Our dog approved full-spectrum hemp oils, tasty treats, and peanut butter toy fillers are perfect for dogs suffering from painful conditions, anxiety, or seizures and can benefit from CBD therapy"
- "Whether you are looking for a way to calm your nervous horse or help your horse with stiff joints, we are here to assist and answer questions. We are the only CBD company with university-level research in equines"
- "CBD for pets and horses, backed by University research"
- "We believe that an alternative approach to animal wellness can be gained using plant-based medicine. Our products are custom formulated by our team of veterinary professionals, ensuring accuracy and consistency. You can trust that only the highest quality ingredients are used to develop each VetCS hemp product"
- "The #1 Veterinarian Recommended CBD Brand"
- "We are the industry leader in offering the most economical option for full-spectrum hemp products"
- "What our customers are saying." The business website is displaying customer reviews that speak about unsubstantiated health claims.
- "Our full spectrum CBD paste is produced in facilities compliant at the FDA level". BBB could not locate information to substantiate this claim on VetCS LLC’s website.
BBB requested that VetCS LLC review their advertising and provide substantiation based on reliable, recent, competent testing for each of the health claims made, and to discontinue any advertising that is in violation of FDA and FTC mandates for this industry.
Despite written requests, as of August 12, 2022, VetCS LLC has not responded to BBB’s request for revisions and clarification in its advertising.
Advertisements should be truthful, sincere offers to sell. Advertisers have a responsibility to have substantiation for all claims made and should be able to provide that substantiation upon request. All advertising that may mislead or deceive consumers should be avoided.
Claims that relate to tangible qualities and performance values of a product or service can be used when the advertiser has substantiation. An example of a claim requiring substantiation would be "#1 car sales in the city".
Advertisers should ensure that testimonials and endorsements are not misleading and represent the current opinion of the endorser. A consumer endorser’s experience should reflect what users generally achieve unless there is a clear and conspicuous disclosure of what the expected results will be. Advertisers should not include claims in testimonials that they themselves cannot make and support.
Claims relating to performance and results should be backed up by reliable evidence.
