          On October 27, 2008, the BBB contacted Brighter Concepts Inc regarding the use of various claims advertising the effectiveness of their daylighting system. The product manufacturer, Solatube International Inc, responded by providing the BBB with information regarding the challenged claims.

          The BBB challenged the following “Claimed Results”, which appears on the company’s website:

          “It is actually good for you. It has been shown in several prominent studies that increasing daily exposure to natural light can enhance mental and physical well-being, boost concentration and energy levels and a variety of other unexpected perks.”

           

          Solatube International Inc provided studies by the Heschong Mahone Group, which was conducted to study the affects of daylight on student performance. Their 1999 study showed a significant increase in test scores for students in classrooms with the most daylight.

          Additionally, the BBB questioned the Highest Performance Guarantee, and suggested they clearly state which product was covered by this guarantee. The company modified the verbiage to clarify the terms and conditions.
