California State Bar v Patrick A Sizemore
On January 11, 2019, the State Bar Court of California filed a stipulation against Patrick A. Sizemore, owner of Sizemore Law firm, for allowing non-attorney individuals to use his law firm’s name and bar number in their business dealings, giving consumers the impression they were working with an attorney when providing them debt relief services. Furthermore, the non-attorneys violated Oregon, Illinois, Arizona, and Georgia debt relief services laws. Case numbers; 15-O-15449, 16-O-11324, 16-O-12175, and 18-O-13998.
In 2010, the respondent began allowing another entity to use the Sizemore Law Group name. The entity specialized in debt relief services and comprised of non-attorneys representing themselves as employees of Sizemore Law Group. The respondent did not exercise any managerial or supervisorial control over the non-attorneys but occasionally received payment from the entity for the use of the Sizemore name and respondent’s bar number. The purpose of the arrangement was so that the entity could market themselves as working for the law group. The respondent received $21,017.85 in compensation for the use of the Sizemore name between March 2013 and April 2017. The entity violated Oregon, Illinois, Arizona, and Georgia’s individual debt relief laws operating under the Sizemore name.
As of June 2019, the respondent was disbarred from the California State Bar. The respondent is to pay restitution to the three affected consumers who filed complaints to the State Bar.
