Investigations
On September 30, 2019, Wedding Referral Club and its owner Shelly Rice came to the attention of BBB. At that time BBB had received four complaints requesting refunds for wedding expo events that were cancelled at the last minute. Consumers were promised refunds from either the owner, Shelly Rice or the event coordinator Sunny Gainey, but no refunds were given. Other d/b/a(s) associated to Shelly Rice are Wedding Mixers and 4040 Events.
One California consumer said she paid $100 in June to be a vendor for two (2) events in September, 2019. After months of not hearing from the event coordinator, she contacted the venues in Carlsbad and San Diego and they both informed her they did not have any events scheduled for those days. She reached out to Wedding Referral Club and was promised a refund, but has not heard from the company since.
A Texas consumer said she was contacted by Shelly Rice and Sunny Gainey to participate in a wedding referral vendor event scheduled for September 3, 2019 in Lubbock, TX. According to the complaint details, "I paid my $45 fee and I heard nothing further. When I started trying to find out the details, my phone calls were unanswered. I finally got an email saying the event was cancelled and a refund would be issued, but it has not. Now I've been blocked from the Facebook messenger thread I used to communicate and the website weddingreferralclub.com is no longer valid."
On September 30, 2019 BBB checked the websites "www.weddingreferralclub.com" and "www.weddingmixers.com" to determine when they were created and where they were registered. The website were created on March 6, 2019 and June 6, 2019, respectively, and were registered in Mountain Home, AR. The Registrant of both sites is Brandon Rice.
In the course of BBB's investigation it was discovered that sixteen (16) events were scheduled to occur in Florida during the month of October 2019. BBB contacted several of the venues and was told no wedding mixers, bridal expos, etc. were scheduled. An event scheduled for October 17, 2019, in The Villages located in Lady Lake, FL, was cancelled by the hotel after receiving calls from concerned consumers and the failure of Wedding Referral Club to complete the contract, after several requests to do so.
Mail sent to the business' Mountain Home, AR address has been returned by the Post Office. The phone number of (870) 321-9667 is disconnected. On October 9, 2019, BBB contacted Wedding Referral Club, via email, requesting current information. As of October 17, 2019 the business has failed to respond. BBB does not know where the business is physically located.
